Also known as the Skin Barrier or Moisture Barrier, the Lipid Barrier is found in the outermost layer of the epidermis and consists of corneocytes (layers of dead skin cells AKA the Bricks) and lipids (the skin’s natural fats AKA the Mortar). This structure essentially is the dam that keeps the water within our bodies inside and prevents Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL), while shielding us against external / environmental stressors, bacteria and allergens.
External stressors that may cause lipid barrier sensitivity:
Pollutants, bacteria, pathogens and allergens.
An environment that is too humid or too dry.
Excessive sun exposure.
Use of soaps and detergents that may strip the skin lipid or moisture barrier.
Over-cleansing and over-exfoliating.
Product overload and incorrect layering of products / active ingredients that can disrupt the pH of the skin.
Internal factors that may cause lipid barrier sensitivity:
Genetics may contribute towards developing skin diseases like psoriasis and dermatitis.
Hormonal changes, i.e. estrogen deficiency during peri-menopause and menopause may cause increased sensitivity as it affects the skin barrier’s ability to regenerate itself.
As the lipid barrier is getting thinner you may notice that your skin takes longer to heal from cuts, bruises or breakouts. The skin may also become less able to defend itself against internal and external stressors (free radicals and oxidative stress) and biochemical triggers like Glycation.

NOT IDEAL FOR: Anyone with healing facial lesions due to surgery, laser or radical resurfacing. Anyone with no removable facial implants or prosthetics. Anyone with recently done fillers or neuromodulators ( i.e. Botox, Xeomin, Dysport).

IDEAL FOR: Anyone who wants a smooth, youthful, and radiant complexion. It’s also used to remove “peach fuzz,” the short, soft hairs on your face. And no, it does not make hair grow back thicker or darker, the change in appearance of hair is due to the shaft of the hair being cut to a blunt edge, but it is impossible for this to make hair grow.

THINGS TO KNOW PRIOR TO BOOKING:
Avoid going to a tanning bed two weeks prior to treatment. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
Waxing/threading or use depilatory creams for 7 days prior.
Cosmetic injections for 2 weeks before and after treatments.
Refrain use of Tretinoin, Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, EpiDuo, Ziana and high-percentage AHA and BHA products for approximately 7 days prior to treatment. Consult your Physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.

This service is amazing for brides or anyone prepping for an event. HydroFacials are also perfect for anyone with lots of pore congestion or breakouts. I liken this treatment to having a dirty rug and just vacuuming it (regular facials) or having it deep cleaned and shampooed ( Hydrofacial).

Microneedling treatments can be performed on areas like the face and décolletage. You won’t need to take time off, but you should expect some minor bleeding, swelling, and tenderness at the treatment site. While you will be numbed with a topical numbing cream, some areas are still a bit sensitive. If you cannot sit through the treatment, a refund will not be given as product has already been used.
